Mattress Depth Compatibility

The most common reason sheets pop off the corners is incorrect pocket depth. Measure the height of your mattress (including any topper) to determine which pocket depth you need.

Which Size Do I Need?

Single sleeper, standard bed

Twin or Full. Full gives more room to spread out.

Single sleeper, tall person (6ft+)

Twin XL for dorms, Queen for maximum comfort.

Couple, standard room

Queen is the most popular choice for couples. Plenty of space for two.

Couple, want maximum space

King. 16 inches wider than a Queen — each person gets almost the width of a Twin.

Couple, one partner is tall

California King. 4 inches longer than a standard King, narrower by 4 inches.

Kids room or daybed

Twin. The standard size for children's beds and daybeds.

Tips for Measuring Your Mattress

Measure the mattress, not the bed frame

Place your tape measure on the top surface of the mattress and measure width (side to side) and length (head to foot). Do not include the bed frame or headboard.

Measure height from the floor up

Place your tape measure at the base of the mattress (where it meets the box spring or platform) and measure straight up to the highest point of the mattress top. Include any mattress topper you use.

Add 2 inches to your depth measurement

For the best fit, choose sheets with a pocket depth at least 2 inches greater than your mattress height. This allows for a snug tuck under the mattress without pulling at the corners.

Check your mattress topper

If you use a mattress topper (memory foam, featherbed, etc.), add its thickness to your mattress height before selecting sheet pocket depth.

What is Pocket Depth?

Pocket depth refers to the height of the elasticized pocket on a fitted sheet — the part that wraps around and under your mattress. A fitted sheet with a 15-inch pocket depth can comfortably fit a mattress up to about 15 inches tall. If your mattress is taller than the pocket depth, the sheet will not reach under the corners and will pop off during the night.

All Royal Bedding Tex fitted sheets feature strong, durable elastic that runs the entire perimeter (not just the corners), ensuring a secure fit that stays put even for restless sleepers. Our standard sheets fit mattresses up to 16 inches, while our deep pocket options accommodate mattresses up to 18 inches.
